Atlus, creators of many fine JRPGs such as the Shin Megami Tensei series, has released a video walkthrough for their upcoming PlayStation Portable game, Persona 3 Portable. The video is intended to help players get a taste of what the game feels like, showing character interactions and explaining the importance of bolstering relationships with fellow in-game students.

Persona 3 Portable, a remake of the original Persona 3 for the PlayStation 2, features a starkly contrasting dichotomy between the daylight hours in high school, and venturing forth into the treacherous demon-infested place in time between today and tomorrow. In a race against limited time, the player has the opportunity to interact with fellow students in high school, with each choice having consequences. These can prepare you for the battles that take place during the night, which use the character’s “Persona” in order to bring forth the character’s inner strength.

Fans of the original Persona 3 for the PS2 will be interested to know that there have been a slew of additions and upgrades over the previous installment. The largest difference between them is the ability to play as either a male or female character, rather than just a male, opening up many new avenues for relationship and courting developments. Gameplay additions have also been made, including a new Skill Card system, addition of part-time jobs, faster load times, and other various tweaks.

Look for Shin Megami Tensi: Persona 3 Portable in stores starting July 6, 2010. Amazon.com is currently offering a pre-order option for $39.96.

timuchan The original PS2 version is gorgeous... I just wish I had a PS2 compatible PS3 so I could play it properly upscaled. :(

drasnor My own experience with upscaling PS1 games on the PS3 slim is that the PS3 does an alright job, but it's only slightly better than playing them on my PS2 and using the upscaling logic in my HD display. To be fair, I DID shop around and select a display with strong performance in that area as a buying point, but still...

Honestly though, I still get the best PS1 graphics from PC emulators that render the game at the display resolution rather than at the original and upscale. The textures look a little off but there's hardly any pixellation. I don't know about PS2 emulators though.

Bandrik Persona 3 (and 4) are very high on my RPG-playing list. My friend Dan is nearly obsessed with this game, and probably won't rest until I can finally properly geek out about this game with him.

I will most likely play the original PS2 version before the PSP one. Nothing against the PSP version, I just like to play classics over remakes first.
