AT&T expands 24/3Mbit service to all 120 U-verse markets

AT&T expands 24/3Mbit service to all 120 U-verse markets

AT&T announced this morning that it has expanded the availability of its Max Turbo U-verse Internet service to all 120 U-verse markets.

Initially launched in the Austin, San Antonio and St. Louis markets in December, 2009, the Max Turbo service offers a dedicated bandwidth of 24/3Mbit for $65 per month for residential customers.

Like all U-verse connections, Max Turbo’s high speed and relatively low price is made possible by Very High Bitrate Digital Subscriber Line (VDSL) technology delivered over a fiber network that only switches to copper lines within a few thousand feet of the customer’s residence, a technique known as fiber to the node (FTTN).

“Max Turbo is the latest example of how we’re bringing consumers and small businesses the choice of better services and faster speeds with AT&T U-verse,” said Mark Collins, SVP of Data and Voice Products, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets.

“With a large majority of U-verse TV customers bundling U-verse Internet, we know we’re giving our customers the broadband choice they want. Customers value our high-quality and integrated bundle of award-winning U-verse TV, fast Internet and voice and wireless services, and they love that we’re continually adding more to improve their experience — more features, more apps and more speed.”

Customers in any one of AT&T’s 120 U-verse markets must bundle Internet and television in order to be eligible for the new Max Turbo service. With the lowest available tier of HD service, the total monthly cost is $122.00.

Reality check

Icrontic’s global HQ is located in the Detroit metropolitan area (a U-verse market), but we have been unable to select the Max Turbo service regardless of the TV package we bundle. We’ve been on the horn with two separate order assistance reps, and neither of them could assist us in adding the Max Turbo option to our order. Worse yet, neither of them had any information on today’s expansion of the Max Turbo service.

AT&T’s marketing team might say its entire network is ready to deliver 24/3 service, but it seems the left hand hasn’t yet discussed that idea with the right hand. Pity.

Ryder I live in the Kalamazoo area and I also cannot add this Max Turbo to a U-verse plan through the website.
