Bastion now available on Chrome webstore

Bastion on ChromeIn an era where the browser is rapidly becoming the OS, it only makes sense that full, rich gaming experiences have a place in the browser. Supergiant Games aims to prove it with Bastion now appearing on the Chrome web store.

Supergiant said on Twitter earlier today, “We’re at Google right now. We’ll tell you why later this evening!” And then just moments ago announced their runaway hit Bastion as a Chrome app.

Bastion logoThis means you can play Bastion on basically any computer, even a netbook or a smartphone with OpenGL support.

Bastion is an engaging game (read our review of Bastion) that was made by a few passionate people in a small studio (read our interview with the writer). The fact that they are now finding success as pioneers in web-based gaming says a lot about the future of where our games will be played.

According to one Icrontic reader, the game is not entirely free: You are prompted to pay $14.99 to “complete the story”.

Try this award-winning hit for FREE right in your Chrome browser! Upgrade to the full-length experience for $14.99 to complete the story.
  3. MoogleDee I have the Samsung Chromebook, and it won't run. It says it requires an OpenGL card which my little Chromebook does not possess. That's fine though, I can play the game on my desktop... or fire up Steam and play it there, but that's not the point.

    primesuspect Thanks for the updates!
  5. Greg Kasavin Hey -- the Chrome version of Bastion is not free. It's free to try, meaning you can play the prologue and then decide if you want to pay for the full version. This is equivalent to getting the free demo from Steam or the free trial from XBLA.

primesuspect Thanks for clarifying, Greg :)
  7. primesuspect
primesuspect I feel like that's a bit disingenuous though; it should list the price on the page.
  8. kryyst
kryyst So glad I waited and didn't buy a copy.
  9. Bandrik
Bandrik Hm... neat, but I don't want to have to fragment my games library even further.

May be useful for playing the game at a guest's place, or at work (if you're daring like that).
  10. phpguy Yeah its not free more like a demo. Good stuff though.
  11. kryyst
kryyst yep not free, that sucks. Just the demo the $15 for the full game. Oh well I'll wait for the sale.
