Beyond Good and Evil HD coming in 2011

Well, it’s not BG&E2, but at least we know Ubisoft is still paying attention to Beyond Good & Evil.

Beyond Good & Evil is a cult favorite; raising passion in gamers like few other one-off titles. Back in 2003, Ubisoft released the game which tells the story of a young reporter named Jade, who sets off to chase a story and ends up unveiling a vast planet-wide conspiracy.

The game was highly rated by critics and gamers, but for some reason never enjoyed massive retail success. Talk of a sequel has been teased about for the last few years, but nothing has ever come of it.

Today Ubisoft announced an HD remake of the original game, coming in 2011 to the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network. With updated models, textures, and soundtrack, the game will be brought into the modern era. In addition, they will be introducing achievements or trophies.

Who knows? Perhaps Ubisoft is gearing up to re-introduce the characters and world to a new audience to prepare them for the desperately-wanted sequel to this fantastic franchise.

That might work with inside that game world. $10 for a six hour story here, another $10 for the next chapter. If I were a betting man, I'd guess thats going to be the experiment, assuming BG&E sells well. It should, its a classic.
30 Sep 2010 ~ 6:10pm Bandrik I missed playing the game last time (though it most certainly IS on my must-play-someday list). I'll most certainly be picking this up. I just hope they do this HD "makeover" right.

You guys know my passion for this game (see linked post in article). I bought the game twice originally.

I'm going to buy it again.

But I really, really wish Ubi was releasing this on PC. The game did quite well on PC originally, and I think it's a bad call to not re-release it on the platform. Then again, this could just be confirming a fear - BGE2 has not been confirmed to be planned for release on PC yet (at least not that I know of), this could be an indication that a PC release for the sequel isn't going to happen.
30 Sep 2010 ~ 8:04pm UPSHitman God that was such a great game! It looks like they are testing the waters with the re-release and, hell if it all goes well maybe the coveted sequel will finally be made..... Lord hope so anyway.
