Capcom and Valve have just announced a crossover between Resident Evil 6 and Left 4 Dead 2. In this crossover, the upcoming PC version of Capcom’s Resident Evil 6 will see the appearance of characters from Valve’s Left 4 Dead 2, while enemies from Resident Evil 6 will begin to appear in Left 4 Dead 2.
This isn’t the first crossover game involving Capcom—the company has done many such mashups with franchises including Marvel Comics, Tekken, and SNK.
Valve isn’t really known for doing crossover work (yet), but they have gone as far as doing promotional work in other games such as during the Potato Sack promotion and their various seasonal sales. They have also promoted both their own and others’ titles through Team Fortress 2.
While the thought of those two games crossing paths isn’t terribly obvious, it does make a bit of sense for this to happen. After all, both RE6 and L4D2 are survival horror games, and both pit the player against scores of the undead. It’ll be interesting to see the extent to which the two titles “invade” each other and whether this leads to more collaborative efforts between the two companies.
The update to Left 4 Dead 2 and the additional content for Resident Evil 6 will be completely free to access and play.
