Details are scarce, but Capcom went live just hours ago with the announcement of Mega Man Universe. Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune says,
“We are thrilled to finally be able to announce Mega Man Universe. This game will break the mold and challenge the conventional wisdom of what a Mega Man game can be. When fans finally get to see it, I believe they’ll envision their most far-out Mega Man dreams coming true.”
First, the teaser trailer:
Inafune-san wants us to use our imagination when viewing this teaser, and asks, “How do you think worlds of Ghosts ‘n Goblins, Street Fighter, and Mega Man will collide?”
Due to the inclusion of other Capcom icons, it hints strongly towards the beginning of a Super Smash Brothers-style crossover fighting game. Still, it seems below Capcom (and Inafune-san) to simply copy a successful formula. History shows us that they probably deserve more credit than that.
This is an exciting time to be a retro gamer. The 80’s appear to be making a comeback in more ways than just music and fashion.
