Capcom claims March for the Month of Mega Man 10

Ahh, March. The month that heralds springtime, the end of winter, the opening of windows, the shaking out of carpets, and sweet fresh air. Not exactly what comes to mind when you think of the classic gaming hero Mega Man, but don’t tell Capcom that.

Capcom is having a love affair with their fans, something that other venerable gaming companies could learn from (imagine Konami doing a retro Castlevania release!). To continue the celebration that they started with 2008’s Mega Man 9, they have released Mega Man 10 today on WiiWare.

A mysterious virus called Roboenza has overtaken the world’s service robots, and people are beside themselves. In a society that takes robots for granted, nothing functions without them. What to do? Mega Man and cohorts Rush, Dr. Light, Eddie, and Protoman must join forces with Dr. Wily to discover the source of this nefarious bug.

Mega Man 10, just like its predecessor, is a completely 8-bit game, using a simulated NES sound library and graphics engine. It plays exactly like a classic Nintendo game, with two buttons and a D-pad. The legendary difficulty of Mega Man games is intact, but Mega Man 10 introduces a new “easy mode” which covers up some of the spike pits and makes some of the jumping and platforming bits easier for those who tend to chuck controllers across the room when things go awry for the 38th time. Exactly true to classic form, there are eight robot masters and then a final multi-part stage. One completely new feature is the ability to play as Mega Man’s ‘brother’, Proto Man.

The WiiWare release is available now, while the PSN release will be available on March 11th (if PSN still works by then) and the Xbox 360 version is out on March 31st.
