Capcom has recently let loose with a barrage of marketing glamor in order to promote their upcoming Wii exclusive, Monster Hunter Tri. They’re really trying to push the game, from bundling it with Nintendo’s new Classic Controller Pro to a humorous viral internet video campaign. Let’s take a closer look at the goodies that Capcom has in store for us.
First up is Capcom and Nintendo working together to bundle the big N’s upcoming Nintendo Wii accessory, the Classic Controller Pro. Not only does it come in sexy piano black, it sports a more ergonomic grip by adding two “wings” similar to the GameCube controllers and moving the ZL and ZR buttons to a second row (similar to a Playstation controller). The bundle package will retail for $59.99, with the standalone game also offered for $49.99. The controllers will also be offered separately in both black and white for about $20.
Next is the nearly obligatory GameStop exclusive pre-order incentive package. Starting on March 8th, those that pre-order the game will receive a playable demo and a collectible Monster Hunter Tri Points Card worth 500 points ($5 equivalent). The card can be redeemed to purchase downloadable content in the Wii or Nintendo DSi Shop Channels.
Finally, Capcom has launched a rather sophisticated marketing campaign including a series of viral videos and an interactive website. The videos are rather humorous, sporting the Scottish-inspired master monster hunter, Ironbeard McCullough. He taunts English fox hunters, referring to them as “pansy hunters that shoot wee little animals”, as well as referring to dangerous deep-sea crab fishing expeditions as “catching itty bitty crabbies”. The website continues the character of Ironbeard, who acts as your host at the monster hunting lodge. Here, players can sign up for a “hunting license” to participate and earn achievements and unlockable rewards.
Monster Hunter Tri features an exciting adventure for parties of up to four to explore an exotic ecosystem where man co-exists with fantastic beasts. Players have the option of working with their friends online fee-free, and make use of the Wii Speak accessory for voice chat. Monster Hunter Tri will debut in North America on April 20, 2010.
