CES: Day 1 is over and we’re exhausted

Robert and I just got back from the OCZ party at the Bellagio. From the sweet suite we had a great view of The Strip and the hotel’s famous fountains. Friends and colleagues from around the world were there, and the Icrontic crew had an excellent time meeting them all. OCZ kept the refreshments flowing while patrons mingled and special guest Fatal1ty fragged all comers in Quake 4. Big ups to OCZ for throwing a sweet shindig.

We’ve made contact today with more companies than expected, and we’ve only just started. Highlights include an awesome 1TB SSD we stumbled upon, a great demo of Boxee, some sweet programs for media, and nice desktop tower from HEC. There are a ton of bizarre things here too. Lian Li tops it with the PC-888 case. It’s a blue monolith that costs $640 if we understand right.

The wireless here at our hotel is terribad, so photos will come first thing in the a.m. when we can get back to the press lounge. Our first year of CES is a HUGE learning experience.

It’s time for me to crash, though. First thing tomorrow morning, I’m checking out a racing simulator and I wanna be up on my game. Prime set the high score at Microsoft’s Guitar Hero setup today, and I wanna wreck some hot laps in whatever they throw at me. Icrontic REPRESENT!

DogDragon Prime you're failing us, You're the camera buff. Where is the pics?
Damn Prime must be like a kid lost in a toy store. Prime get hold of
yourself and start getting some pics. I think we lost Prime to GREAT time
overload. Well guess we have to let him run, he needed a time like this.
We can just hope he don't hurt himself. :)
  2. Khaos
    Khaos Less drinking; more camera-ing!

    Ok, more of both?

    More drinking?

Ok, fine. No camera, more booze.

    YARRRRR!
  3. QCH
QCH Cool.... I am looking forward to the upcoming year's review material now that you guys have even more industry contacts.
  4. Thrax
Thrax I can't even explain how bad the wifi situation has been here. Our hotel gets 30KB/s download, which we all know is AWFUL. We're getting things online now, at the speed of molasses and USB 1.1.
  5. McBain
McBain What...no 3G OTA action? No one has a spare winMO phone and some pdaNet?
  6. Linc
Linc No ethernet jacks in the room?

3G is really fast in some places, and pretty bad in others. The majority of Wednesday night and inside the convention center, it's GPRS only.
  8. primesuspect
    primesuspect No ethernet.

USB 1.1 = 125 pics took about 55 minutes to dump

I have no laptop (sorry matt, the laptop I'm borrowing is useless - the wifi won't connect to hotel network and it has no battery life to speak of)

    No photoshop

    Yeah, we're learning :D
  9. fatcat
fatcat Novak and I dont have ethernet jacks in the room either, but our wifi is pretty decent.

Hey that's ten times faster than what I was getting from my dial-up.

BTW:Someone should've challenged fatal1ty to TF2. IC vs whatever group of screwups he could come up with. GAME ON!:rarr:
  11. primesuspect
primesuspect Fatal1ty is.... flashy. They asked me if I wanted to meet him, and ... I just am not interested.
  12. Winfrey
Winfrey Thats why we should shame him in tf2! Bring him back down to earth!
  13. UPSLynx
UPSLynx This was just like when I was at SIGGRAPH, I was shooting tons of pics with my DSLR just to realize after day one I had left my transfer cable at home....

CES '10 will be an aggressive step forward with the lessons learned.
