Gigabyte has announced an Atom-powered small tablet PC with an 8.9″ screen that should costs just under $700 upon release. They call it the M912V.

The specs are as follows:
1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, 1GB DDR2 RAM, 160GB HDD, integrated 802.11b/g, a 1.3 megapixel webcam, Bluetooth, a good number of expansion and USB ports, and two gnat’s-ass sized speakers.

The LCD screen can push resolutions up to 1280×768, and the whole thing has a battery life of around 3.5 hours. It weighs in at under 3 lbs.

    CB I've been waiting for a less expencive tablet PC... This might not be the one for me, but if a trend picks up to make them cheaper, I'll grab one soon.

    mertesn Are those standard gnat's asses or metric?

    A tablet that size actually sounds pretty useful. I'll be interested to see how well it handles Vista and how internally upgradeable it is (RAM, HD, etc).
