Cogent Systems releases facial recognition for HP notebook

Cogent Systems & HP have teamed up to offer a biometric identification system for the HP Business Notebook 5102.  The Cogent Systems plug-in for the HP Notebook allows the integrated 2 megapixel webcam to use facial recognition to verify your identity.  Cogent’s Facial BioTrust® plug-in work similar to finger print readers in that once your identity is verified you can login to website, email, and even into your Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 computer.

Cogent Systems specializes in biometric identification systems, products and services normally catering to law enforcement, governments, and large corporations.  Cogent’s Facial BioTrust is the first facial biometric system for the commercial sector.  They plan on offering the Facial BioTrust in future HP Business notebooks and even plan on branching out to a standalone version that would work with ANY Windows system with a webcam.

(Fingerprint readers were so 2001, I just wish the facial scan had the horizontal and vertical scanning lasers and a voice that says “Access Granted”.)
