Confirmed: Android 2.1 for Moto Droid this week

Confirmed: Android 2.1 for Moto Droid this week

Motorola announced via its Facebook page today that the Motorola Droid will receive an OTA update to Android 2.1 starting sometime this week.

Hi all– we know you are frustrated with the lack of details regarding Android software upgrades and we sincerely apologize for not being able to share info sooner. We’re happy to relay the 2.1 upgrade to DROID will start to roll out this week, and we will have more information to share on other device upgrades later …this week as well. Thanks for your patience and continued support.

Not all fans may be pleased by the update, however, as inside sources have revealed that several features notable to the Nexus One’s implementation of 2.1 have been dropped, including animated wallpaper and the new launcher. More positively, however, browser multi-touch, Google Goggles, and the news and weather widget have all made the grade.

Not happy with the omissions? Maybe it’s time to get the full 2.1 experience by giving the Sholes.info ROM a try.

    Motorola... remember the Cliq...

ardichoke Good luck with that QCH, from what I've read anything with the MOTOBLUR interface only gets put on phones Motorola considers "lower end" or bargain phones. I wouldn't expect much in the way of being kept on the cutting edge. Especially since they have to put in quite a bit of dev time to update custom UIs like that for newer Android releases.

chrisWhite Shoulda gone with an iPhone. ;-)

Thrax It has been confirmed that the Cliq will be getting 2.1, but Motorola has not said when.

GnomeQueen Multitouch, HOT. I'm so excited. *Pets her droid* Pinch to zooom, I love youuuu.
  6. Todd J. List I look forward to the upgrade, but I'm honestly more hopeful about some phone performance issues.

It would be really nice to NOT have to reboot the phone to reacquire the 3G signal after leaving the Wireless Network Extender zone in my apartment.

@Gnome Queen: Have you played with the Dolphin browser at all? It has the multi-touch capability, although there are some other quirks and trade-offs.
  7. GnomeQueen
GnomeQueen Hello Todd! No, I haven't tried the Dolphin browser. I'll have to look into it. Thanks for the tip! :D
  8. ardichoke
ardichoke Dolphin is great. I installed it and haven't used the built in browser since.

Confirmed... should be out before 2018. ;D
  10. IT Support Hopefully the multi-touch updates also fix the scrolling issue. You know, you're scrolling and all of a sudden the app scrolls down full speed? Yeah, that one...
