Corsair preps five new SSDs

The time of the year is fast approaching when the PC market explodes with new generations and refreshed lineups. Corsair, for its part, is preparing to hit the spring bonanza with not one, but five new SSDs spread over three distinct product lines.

Performance series

Corsair’s Performance series has been the company’s go-to lineup for what is likely the bulk of its SSD sales. With a compelling price/performance ratio (relative to SSDs), a solid Samsung controller and features like ATA TRIM, Corsair has undoubtedly done well for itself with these products.

That said, the Performance series is branching into new and interesting territory. Starting with the CSSD-P512GB3, Corsair is packing a pair of 256GB SSDs into 3.5″ caddy with removable bays. Given the design of the drive, we concur with Hexus’ prediction that it’s two bog standard Performance drives hooked to a RAID0 controller.

Reactor series

Arriving in 60GB and 120GB flavors, Reactor drives feature burst read speeds of up to 250MB/s. Other specifications (as we know them) follow:

CSSD-R60GB2-BRKT

Capacity: 60GB
Read (Burst): 250MB/s
Write (Burst): 110MB/s

CSSD-R120GB2-BRKT

Capacity: 120GB
Read (Burst): 250MB/s
Write (Burst): 170MB/s
Interface: SATA-II
Controller: Unknown
Cache: 128MB DDR2
NAND Provider: Unknown
ATA TRIM?: Yes

Nova series

Where the Reactor series favors the high read performance typical of premium drives, the Nova series offers a higher write speeds in lieu of maximum read performance.

CSSD-V64GB2-BRKT

Capacity: 64GB
Read (Burst): 215MB/s
Write (Burst): 130MB/s
Interface: SATA-II
Controller: Indilinx Barefoot
Cache: 64MB DDR2
NAND Provider: Unknown
ATA TRIM?: Yes

CSSD-V128GB2-BRKT

Capacity: 128GB
Read (Burst): 215MB/s
Write (Burst): 195MB/s
Interface: SATA-II
Controller: Indilinx Barefoot
Cache: 64MB DDR2
NAND Provider: Unknown
ATA TRIM?: Yes

Final words

There is no indication as to when these devices will launch, but some time in the next 60 days is a solid estimate as Corsair will likely  join many other SSD manufacturers with an official product unveiling at CeBIT this March.

Sledgehammer70 I would love for this tech to drop in price a bit faster. While anyone can get them from their pre mass market $5,000 range just a few years ago, it would be nice to get them inline with current drives. Like maybe double the price or something.
