Better have a newer TV...

Venerable networking hardware provider D-Link has been chosen as the manufacturer of the first Boxee box. Boxee is an open entertainment platform that allows streaming of a variety of Internet content to televisions. The new Boxee Box is a device for those who prefer not to have to build a dedicated HTPC for the televisions, but who enjoy access to the Boxee service.

Now that YouTube is in 1080p, and other content providers are getting on the digital bandwagon, this is rapidly becoming an excellent way to consume digital content.

The Boxee Box will be available at retail in the  first half of 2010.  The manufacturer’s suggested retail price is still undetermined. Besides the ports shown in the picture, the Boxee Box will also support WiFi.

Icrontic will be taking a look at the Boxee Box at CES 2010, where it has been entered in the Last Gadget Standing competition.

Cliff_Forster Price and ease of setup will be key for this gadget.

Its fairly cheap and easy to set up linux running boxee for HTPC as it is, but thats for guys like us. For everyone else a gadget like this might have appeal, if its cheap and easy to set up it might be a big deal.

ardichoke So this is what they're busy working on instead of releasing a 64-bit build? I'm so upset with you right now Boxee. I really thought this software had promise but I can't run it since they don't have a 64-bit version (for Linux anyway).
