Dell has added a new Studio 17 DTR to its online store that includes a full touchscreen.
The entry-level touchscreen unit starts at a price point of $899 and includes a Pentium Dual Core processor, 3GB RAM, 250GB hard drive, GMA4500MHD graphics, onboard audio, 6-cell battery, and Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
Users not satisfied by the base configuration can push the MSRP to $2,564 with a Core 2 Duo T9600, 8GB RAM, 2x500GB HD, ATI Mobility Radeon 4650 1GB, and 9-cell battery.
For work that involves editing media, such as photos, movies, or graphics, the touchscreen could be a significant asset to the user. However, a touch interface would be an annoyance, if not a hindrance, to most tasks. In this regard, the Studio 17 Touch appears to be a niche product.
Users interested in fingering their laptop’s touch screen can do so immediately.
