Mass Effect 3

For the past few days now there have been cover pictures for the next issue of Game Informer. That issue will have details for the next (and final?) installment of Mass Effect. Spoiler alert? Yes, there will be spoilers and if you don’t want to be spoiled than I suggest hitting the back button.

Here are the details for the next Mass Effect 3:

Got my new Game Informer, read the ME3 article. Game starts with Shepard on Earth, effectively on trial in regard to the events of Arrival, and in the middle of the trial, the Reapers invade. Prologue involves Shepard’s escape to the Normandy, and off to start finding those allies, fighting Reaper troops (husks of all the different species) the whole way.

Confirmed squadmates: Liara, Ashley/Kaiden, Garrus (if he’s alive) and… James Sanders… That must be the guy from the trailer, I don’t remember. [Note: BioWare has confirmed that Sanders isn’t the sniper dude from the trailer.]

[Note 2: On further inspection, the magazine only says they are “playable to some extent.”]

Speaking of which, there’s a screenshot of Ashley with her hair down, and she actually looks hot. Don’t have a scanner, so wait till someone with one turns up.

Confirmed to appear, but not guaranteed as squaddies: Wrex, Mordin, Legion, and Anderson. Obviously, if they live.

The game will by default feature a “previously on Mass Effect” comic to make decisions with if starting from scratch.

The Illusive Man also plays a prominent role, and Cerberus is out to kill Shepard. Reason why is unknown at this point.

The RPG elements are being beefed up, not going back to ME1, but giving more freedom with the character skills. Skill trees will be larger, and powers will evolve several times instead of just once, offering even more freedom. Weapons are ME2 style, with a set list, but mods make a return, not in the ME1 style, but allowing you to swap out different parts such as barrels, scopes, and so on, which effect both the weapon’s combat performance and its appearance.

All classes can wield all weapons unhindered now, but will have limited slots to carry them. Only the Soldier can carry all weapons at once. Probably means Adept, Engineer, and Sentinal will be limited to two, and Vanguard and Infiltrator will have three.

Also mentioned: The game will have numerous endings, some good, some bad, and who you have in your squad and which allies you recruit can have a drastic effect on which are available.

Does this excites you as much as it does for me? I am looking forward to learn more about the game when E3 rolls around.

Hope that's exclusive of the heavy weapon otherwise two slots seems a bit miserly (Adepts/engies/sentinals got heavy pistols, SMGs and heavy weapons in ME2).

Ash returning is great, one of the few characters who wasn't psychotic/stupid/whiny as fuck (I'm looking at you <del>Carth</del> Kaiden) and was actually useful in combat.

Winfrey The real scoop here is how many women you get to sexify this time around.

Myrmidon Oh god oh god oh god do want

I've just purchased and have been playing the previous two. I'm noooooot sure how I missed out on this franchise... but I am freaking in love. Gonna be really disappointed for the story to end.

_k Why does everyone run away from Shepard when the games end? You would think he could just call them up on his holophone and get the band back together.
  6. Snarkasm
Snarkasm Sounds like that's what THIS game is doing. Old favorites and new back together.

For a massive orgy of alien sexytime?

Snarkasm Liara + Ashley + Tali foursome, plus a ragefuck from Miranda while she hunts you across the galaxy.

    pseudonym NO... MORE.... SCANNING!!!

fufufufufufufuuuuuuuu.. Please tell me they do away with that crap.
  10. Snarkasm
Snarkasm It'll be something else. Every game had one crappy mechanic - ME1 had Mako driving, ME2 had planet scanning. ME3 will be something like growing your own ammunition.
  11. ardichoke
ardichoke Good lord the physics on the Mako were terrihorribad
  12. Basil
Basil Heh, I kinda liked the mako.

Though planet scanning can just DIAF, even being able to probe Uranus couldn't save it.
  13. pseudonym
pseudonym I'd take the Mako over the scanning every time.

The new one is most likely some sperm minigame where you try and impregnate whomever you sleep with... IN SPACE!!! Good luck with the inter-species relationships!

fix't. Related, did you see the destructoid article from 2009 about playing as a female shepard? I actually read that first and haven't played as a male shepard yet... http://www.destructoid.com/love-hate-a-plea-to-play-as-a-female-shepard-157515.phtml

_k My character is female, and she knows how to pull the ladies.
  16. Snarkasm
Snarkasm My female leads outnumber my male lead playthroughs 5 or 6 to 1, usually. I'm playing a male warrior through DA2 right now and I just keep wishing my character was a female rogue again.

I think my current ME2 playthrough is with a male Shepard, but my two or three previous were females. I think subconsciously it's because I know it's not like I'd get really immersed as a hulky dude, so I may as well go fully the opposite and play as a chick.

Or maybe I just like lesbian relationships in BioWare games.

I've played it through a couple of times as each and IMO the most significant differences are attached to your characters chest.
Voice acting/pronoun swap and who Shephard can hit on is the height of it, your pre-service history, psych profile and even morality have more influence on gameplay.

Still, better than KotOR2 where you had to go male to get the handmaiden/avoid the disciple.
  18. CB
CB I always choose a female protagonist when the option is given. I never get immersed deeply enough in interactive fiction to think of the protagonist as "me" anyway, so if I'm going to be spending upwards of 120 hours watching the exploits of this protagonist, I may as well take the more visually pleasing option, especially considering how high a percentage of that time is going to be spent watching that character run around from behind.

To me the character selection screen is asking "Whose ass do you want to stare at for hours on end?"

The exception to this for me is when Betsy and I play an RPG together. In these cases, she specifically requests that I choose a male avatar.
  19. Canti
Canti Definitely the voice acting that makes the difference.
