EA Games announced recently that they will re-release the classic video game Syndicate on February 12, 2012. To celebrate the announcement, Electronic Arts has commissioned two very big names in electronic music to produce remixes for the soundtrack. The remixes, produced by Skrillex and Digitalism, were released today on the Syndicate Facebook page.
Digitalism, like many electronic music producers, are video game fanatics and had this to say about the opportunity to become a part of the Syndicate legacy:
“Syndicate is a game classic which is now being brought back to life. For us as electronic music lovers who grew up with games and love soundtracks, there was no way around re-interpreting the Syndicate theme!”
The two of them took the challenge very seriously, as they worked in their studio to produce a track that was worthy of the name.
“(we) imagined being in the game, creating a fast-paced atmosphere, turning all the compressors up and mixing classic soundtrack elements with techno. We wanted to make sure it sounds dangerous – et voila, here we go.”
This remix is not the only video game-inspired music that Digitalism has been working on. Their upcoming album, I Love You, Dude, is mostly inspired by Commodore 64 games from the eighties. They will be embarking on a 10-date North American tour this month to showcase the album.
While Skrillex is well-known for including sound bites from viral internet videos in his tracks, he has mentioned in past interviews that he is interested in working on video game soundtracks as well. This would come as no surprise to his fans, who enjoy the hard, glitchy sounds in his music as well as the catchy, melodic hooks that often sound like they could be from a video game.
More remixes from the Syndicate soundtrack will be released in the next few months leading up to the Syndicate release. Stay tuned to the Syndicate Facebook page for more details.
