Square Enix unveils Final Fantasy XIV benchmarking tool

Using actual in-game scenes and characters, Square Enix’s new Final Fantasy XIV benchmarking tool can help you determine whether your computer can run the upcoming MMORPG.

From the press release:

  • Users can choose from a selection of available characters to appear in the benchmark, representing five of the races appearing in FINAL FANTASY XIV. (Characters can also be selected randomly.)
  • In addition to 1280×720 resolution, a high definition display of 1920×1080 is also supported. Enjoy the realm of Eorzea in exquisite clarity.
  • The benchmark software will run through an event featuring fully voiced dialogue in 5.1 channel surround sound.
  • Japanese, English, German and French are supported.

You can download the benchmark now from this link hosted by NVIDIA.

Obsidian The benchmark crashes after the character select screen. Even though I have no plans of actually buying the game (largely because of Star Wars The Old Republic), I'm eager to see more of it. I know my computer can run the game but the benchmark looks pretty cool from your screenshot.

primesuspect The benchmark is awesome. Are your video drivers updated? What are your hardware specs?
  4. ledbetter
ledbetter I can't get it to work either. Downloaded and unzipped several times but when I try and run the app, I get the following error:
  5. Obsidian
Obsidian My error is less specific than ledbetter's. For some reason Windows 7 hates actually saying what the problem is when something crashes. My drivers probably aren't the most recent but they're only a couple months old and my rig is described on my profile.

    primesuspect Try updating your drivers
