Gotham City characters on Twitter… What gives?

Okay, so apparently Rachel Dawes, Harvey Dent, Bruce Wayne, Lucius Fox, James Gordon, the Joker, Harlequin, Killer Croc, and probably more than I feel like delving into are … using Twitter?

The scary part is that their “Tweets” (The short, <140 character messages that Twitter users send back and forth) all seem relatively ‘legit’ in their mundaneness. The common thread is that they are all talking to each other, even while including other Twitter users…

Social experiment? Bored nerdy fans? Super high tech role-playing game? Insidious viral marketing campaign? What is this?
