Square Enix has finally announced the official release date for their latest MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV. Or, should I say, release dates. There are two different flavors—standard and the obligatory Collector’s Edition. Each has their own separate release date, with the more expensive of the two coming out a week sooner. Tricky, tricky, Square Enix.

PlayStation 3 owners may have noticed that only the PC version has been mentioned so far. Sorry, console-goers, but you will have to patiently wait until around March 2011 to jump into the game.
On a side note, I was able to take a peek at Final Fantasy XIV while at E3. Suffice it to say, the game certainly received a graphics overhaul. The entire art style seems to really focus on pretty sparkles and magical auras. To give you an idea of what the “real world” expectations are of this game, I took a photo of the beautiful Samsung HDTVs they used to showcase the game. At full 1080p and running smoothly on high-end PCs, it certainly is a step up from Final Fantasy XI.
