Google+ API release

Today Google released the first iteration of the API for Google+. In this release, only information shared with the “Public” circle is available.

Technical information for developers to begin connecting apps with the G+ network has been made immediately available, and the API uses the latest standards-compliant methodologies. I mean, it is Google after all. From their blog:

  • Our API methods are RESTful HTTP requests which return JSON responses.
  • Our payload formats use standard syntax (e.g. PoCo for people info, ActivityStrea.ms for activities).
  • We use OAuth 2 for secure trusted access to user data.

You can expect to start seeing G+ authentication as a valid method of connecting to a variety of services, much as you see Facebook and Twitter authentication now. G+ information will also be available to metric services like Klout and PeerIndex.

As the API matures, expect to see more detailed ways to access and use the “circles” way of thinking in all kinds of creative applications.

MiracleManS I can honestly say that integration with a client was all I was waiting for to use this service more fully.
