The greatest football game of all time is making a comeback in just a few days. Tecmo Bowl Throwback will take gamers on a trip down memory lane to revisit the classic football game that started it all 20 years ago. Publisher Tecmo has recently released a trailer for the game that shows the remake in action.
Tecmo Bowl Throwback joins games like Sonic 4 and NBA Jam by bringing back a classic game from the yesteryears of gaming and reviving it in a modern light. The feature that will make Tecmo Bowl Throwback stand apart is that not only does the game replicated the pixel-perfect look of the NES and SNES titles, but it also has an option to play the game with 3D graphics, while still retaining the same look and feel of the original games. Because of the complete similarity of gameplay, the game can be switched from 2D to 3D on the fly.
Tecmo Bowl Throwback will also feature a season mode, quick play, and online multiplayer, which includes a tournament mode. There are also tools to let you customize your team, which will probably be limited to simple changes due to the ‘generic’ style of Tecmo Bowl. Unfortunately, due to the lack of an NFL license, “The Sweetness” will not return to lead the ’85 Bears to an NFL championship, and Bo Jackson won’t be winning games by running a single play for the entire duration of a quarter.
Tecmo Bowl Throwback will be blitzing to Xbox Live Arcade on April 28, 2010 for $10. A release date has yet to be announced for the Playstation Network.
