Futuremark announces 3DMark 11

Today Futuremark announced the DirectX 11-enabled version of their ubiquitous 3D Mark suite, called 3DMark 11. 3DMark 11 will be shown to the public for the first time at Computex in Taipei on June 1st, but for now they’ve released a video showing the Deep Sea tech demo.

From the press release:

Deep Sea is a demonstration of DirectX 11 technologies created using an early development build of the 3DMark 11 engine. The Deep Sea trailer features submersibles exploring the sea floor. Volumetric lighting illuminates the seabed with tessellation used to add rich detail to the rock, coral and manmade structures. Post processing delivers depth of field and other lens effects. The music is an original composition.

3DMark 11 is not the first DirectX 11 benchmark—that honor goes to Unigine Heaven—but Futuremark has been in the benchmarking business for a long time, and 3DMark promises to become a standard benchmarking tool.
