Game studio receives award for promoting employee happiness

In this day and age of high unemployment and poor economy, it is all too easy for employers to take advantage of their employees—forcing them to sacrifice their home life just to keep a job. That’s what makes the Quebec government’s recognition of Frima Game Studio (Icrontic’s review of Frima’s Zombie Tycoon) for providing a great work/life balance so surprising.

While it would be easy for a game studio to require long hours of its employees, Frima recognizes that game developers are typically younger employees, and younger employees these days are more interested in balancing their work with family life.

According to Frima’s CEO, Steve Couture, “We all know video games are a demanding industry that’s no stranger to frequent overtime. That’s why we’re proud to have come up with a balanced work-family program that reduces the need for too-long hours. As a result, we have happy, motivated employees and, consequently, a productive and successful studio.”

It should be required course that business owners take Don’t Be a Jerk 101. Happy employees lead to higher productivity. Frima’s policy shows that it is a game studio that is aware of this business truth.

TheHeartSmasher Nice to hear of this way of thinking for Frima. The happier everyone is the better their work will be in the short and long term.

Bandrik One of the things I really studied while in college (and got a Minor in) was this very thing. Keeping employee morale up without letting them go too far and start slacking off. There's a fine balance between the two, but if you can hit that mark, the rewards for the company are definitely worth it. "Don't Be a Jerk 101", indeed. =D

Way to go, Frima! I'll have to check out what games they've developed. Perhaps they'll be worth our attention.

    Cliff_Forster Don't be a jerk 101 should go viral.
