Details are cropping up that indicate the NVIDIA GeForce 260 GTX may be receiving a new reference PCB. The new design should cut manufacturing costs and may lead to lower prices for consumers.
An itemized list of the changes:
- The reference board’s name is “P897/D10U-20”
- PCB layers have been reduced from 10 to 8
- New MOSFET packages
- Refined NVVDD 4/6 phase power solution
- Two-phase FBVDDQ power solution reduced to single phase
All things considered, the changes should reduce the height of the card by 1.5cm and clip about $15 from its manufacturing price. Other changes might include a cheaper DVI connector and a smaller (512k vs. 1MB) BIOS ROM.
