Following a Friday release from the German Federal Office for Information Security that warned users of the perils of using Internet Explorer, France has today done the same; both countries believe that the browser has severe vulnerabilities that could jeopardize users’ data.
Germany’s press release warns citizens against using any version of Internet Explorer because of a flaw that allegedly facilitated the recent attacks against Google. The IS bureau continued by saying that the browser remains unsecure even if protective steps are taken, and suggested that users seriously consider alternative browsers.
France, meanwhile, believes that Internet Explorer 6, 7 and 8 are subject to serious vulnerabilities and that consumers should change to a different browser. In making the announcement, France cited a Microsoft press release which focuses on IE6, but applies to more recent versions as well.
Users looking for alternative browsers are encouraged to look at Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Opera as a permanent solution.
