With the profusion of multi-touch capable devices on the market and the assured mainstream adoption of the technology despite Apple-held patents, it behooves cutting-edge developers to get in on the ground floor. Ideum today announced GestureWorks 1.5, a library of multi-touch tools for Flash and Flex that should make it much easier for developers to create apps that support this technology.
While the current list of supported hardware is impressive, there is no mention of the Apple iPad. Ideum Director Jim Spadaccini believes that Flash and Flex can provide ample competition, however:
“There are a dozen ‘iPad-like’ devices slated to be released this year from large companies like HP and Dell as well as start-ups like the JooJoo tablet. With the right hardware, Flash can compete with the iPad. GestureWorks provides the missing link: full multitouch support and ease of authoring, “
GestureWorks 1.5 is available immediately, starting at $249 for commercial licenses and $99 for educational.
