Last year Google asked aspiring designers to create a one-of-a-kind item inspired by Google, which were then used to create iGoogle artist themes. This year, Google has once again asked designers to create clothing items, but has also moved to make them available in the Google store for a limited time.
Vogue and the Council of Fashion Designers of America supports a fund that helps to sponsor new and upcoming designers. This year, three of them have created an item to be sold in the Google store. The three items are a diamond necklace, a deconstructed shirt, and a scarf. The items aren’t cheap: the shirt retails for $85, the diamond magnifying glass necklace for $200, and the scarf for $300.
It’s unclear if Google is doing this simply to help the fund or to gain press, as it’s unlikely in this economy that such expensive items will sell well. Still, perhaps loyal Google fans out there will find room in their pockets for one of these pricey pieces.
