Hail the new SSD speed king!

Hail the new SSD speed king!

Twinkle toes Wozniak’s new company, Fusion-io, is tearing up net today with the introduction of the ioDrive, a PCIe mounted 80 – 320GB storage card that pushes 700 MB/s reads and 500 MB/s writes. That’s quick.

Not as fast as the newly announced ioDrive Duo, however. Their sophomore release starts at $14k and will push 1.5GB/s reads and 1.4GB/s writes with capacities ranging from 640GB to upwards of 1.28TB when it hits later this year. And that’s just with one card. Performance will scale linearly, they say, meaning you could see 6GB/s reads on a four-card array. That’s fast.

deepsea Seriously. How long before ATI/NVIDIA get the idea that they could seriously undercut the market prices for PCI ssds?
