Happy Core i7 Day!

Happy Core i7 Day!

Break open your piggy banks and get your credit cards handy; it’s Core i7 Day! Today is the day X58 motherboards and Intel’s new Nehalem processors finally go on sale in North America at all your favorite retailers.

On the cheap side, you can snag a MSI Platinum motherboard, Core i7 920 processor and 3GB of Kingston DDR3 for $665. That looks to be the cheapest way into the new system. Alternatively, you can break the bank with ASUS’s Rampage II Extreme at $400, 6GB of Corsair triple channel for $250, and a 965EE for $1,070 and be the envy of your geeky friends for the next week. Not bad for $1,720.

On launch day, the biggest news we can find is that Newegg is hurting for memory kits. Most of the 3 and 6GB kits are listed but out of stock suggesting they sold out in the early hours this morning due to high demand, or the memory companies are having a tough time pushing out product.

BuddyJ I think I'll be holding out until some of the other boards come out. DFI and Foxconn, where are you?
  2. Thrax
Thrax DFI is seemingly always late to the party with a killer BAMF board. I can wait.

BuddyJ I've got the hots for the Foxconn Blood Rage. It'll let me keep my 775 HSF and will hopefully own face like their P45 board does.

    2011?

It's my understanding that we should start to see Westmere by Q4 2009. I'll burn through a handful of GPUs by then, but I think the Q6600 will continue to serve me well.

Thrax Westmere isn't scheduled until mid 2010, with volume shipments by the end of the year.
