Harvesting stem cells from human/animal DNA

In a surprising maneuver, fertility groups have given the green-light to an ambitious project that will implant DNA from adults with neurodegenerative diseases and lab-grown stem cells into unfertilized animal eggs. The resulting combination will not be allowed to grow for more than fourteen days, when an “Embryo” is little more than a cluster of multiplied cells similar to a culture in a petri dish.

The hope is that scientists will be able to produce stem cells afflicted with the diseases imbued by the human contributors. Scientists will then be able to study the markers of these illnesses in their most formative stages.
