Hilarious fake TF2 update, seemingly endorsed by Valve

The Team Fortress 2 dev team has been known to play mind games with their fans before, so you’re going to have to come up with your own interpretation of the following:

The latest entry on the Official TF2 blog hints at a “guard dog” update. Clicking through leads to a mysterious site on a non-Valve domain, 50webs.com. It looks like a new playable class called “Guard Dog”, and goes into great detail about abilities, weapons, and achievements, but the fake footer and this post on the Steam forums revealing it to be a very well done fake lead us to believe that it is a grand effort by a very talented hoaxster.

We could be wrong, of course. Valve could be making it look like a fake so that if they do drop the mysterious “10th class” hinted at in the past, we will all be thrilled at their clever games.

I’m still holding out for Engineer updates. Perhaps a twist on this post will reveal that the Guard Dog is actually part of the Engineer update; some of those Guard Dog weapons certainly look familiar…

  2. UPSLynx
UPSLynx I want this to be true SO bad.
  3. Koreish
Koreish Seems similar to the fake Spy update. Which I'm really disappointed valve didn't capitalize on some of those.

Does seem like it could be part of an Engie update, though.
  4. Cliff_Forster
Cliff_Forster Will never happen. You can't blast Fido with a rocket, PETA would go bonkers!
  5. MAGIC
MAGIC Since when as anyone ever taken PETA seriously?

I don't know about this. Could be tacky.
  6. UPSLynx
UPSLynx You know, I got thinking about this. I'd LOVE to play as a canine, but I realized it couldn't possibly carry that incredible level of character that the rest of the TF2 classes display.

TF2 characters are top notch because they all have personality. They yell things during combat, and when they do, you know which class is talking based on how they talk. A canine could never be presented in such a fashion.
  7. Snarkasm
Snarkasm What are you talking about? If I heard a dog "talk" in battle, I'd sure as hell be able to pick out "yiff yiff yap yap growl" from "ENTIRE TEAM IS BABIES."

    Snarkasm Dogfighting. Classy reference.
  12. mertesn
mertesn Perhaps this is in keeping with TF2's slow transition to a FPS-RPG hybrid... all classes will get a familiar in the next round of class upgrades.
  13. Starman
Starman I tricked Canti into thinking this was real for a couple minutes this morning.
  14. Idiot_Slayer
Idiot_Slayer Quick question- How do you backstab a dog?
(SUBQUESTION is it refered to as an Ass-stab?)
