HTC HD Mini officialized

The second day of the GSM Mobile World Conference is under way in Barcelona, and today HTC took the reins with a suite of smartphone announcements beginning with the HTC Photon, or the HTC HD Mini.

Positioned as the little sibling to HTC’s HD2 handset, the HD Mini pares back the CPU from 1GHz to 600MHz (likely a Qualcomm MSM7627), and drops the screen from 4.3″/400×800 to 3.2″/480×320. Like its big brother, however, the HD Mini also runs Windows Mobile 6.5.3 masked with the company’s famed Sense UI.

Other specs include:

  • 384MB RAM, 512MB ROM;
  • 5MP camera;
  • 1400mAh battery;
  • Bluetooth 2.1+EDR;
  • FM radio;
  • GPS and A-GPS;
  • 802.11b/g WiFi;
  • 3.5mm” stereo jack and MicroUSB;
  • MicroSD support up to 32GB;
  • and dimensions of 2.27″ x 4.09″ x .46″ (W x H x D).

“The demand for the HTC HD2 has exceeded our expectations, and the HTC HD mini fulfills a desire from some customers to bring the capabilities and experience of the HTC HD2 to a more compact design,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. “The integration of HTC Sense and Windows Phone on HD mini and HD2 gives customers an additional choice for an advanced Windows Mobile phone that is sleek, well crafted and easy to use.”

Rounding out the hardware, the HD Mini features a 7.2Mbps 900/2100MHz HSPA radio, making it eligible for an Asian and European debut this April. There is no word if the device will find its way to this side of the pond with support for the AWS or PCS bands.
