The latest of a long line of Humble Indie Bundles has just hit the shelves—and true to form, it’s a scorcher.
Starting off this bundle is the genuinely unsettling Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Blending stealth and puzzle-solving, this first-person survival horror game forces the player to avoid combat with the abominations stalking the game world, but sticking to the shadows takes its own toll on the protagonist’s sanity.
Next up is the equally eerie darling of the games-as-art crowd LIMBO. Set in a monochromatic 2D world filled with countless monsters and often lethal puzzles, the player’s skills will be put to the test as they guide an unnamed boy through these horrors in this deliciously dark side-scroller. Third in the bundle is Psychonauts—it’s a game every true gamer will have played—and with good reason. The cartoonish setting is chock full of inane but hilarious characters and some of the most memorable dialogue in video gaming, with the frankly absurd plot rounding off one of the best platformers ever made. If you’re still not convinced, read our review of this fantastic game from 2006.
Wrapping up the core bundle is Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP. Closer to an album than a game, this laid-back take on your usual action-adventure fare focuses much more on audiovisual style than gameplay. A mellow LP you can play along with—Sword & Sworcery offers an experience second to none.
Although that’s all for the base bundle, the HiB tradition of rewarding those who give that little bit more continues—this time with Supergiant Games multi-award winning action RPG Bastion. Set in a post-apocalyptic world like no other, Bastion follows ‘the kid’ in his quest to repair a broken world and offers a sublime mix of a solid story, varied combat and stunning visuals.
As you would expect from a Humble Bundle, each game comes with cross-platform support and Steam support for all purchases over $1, with the usual charitable options available—but that’s not it for this bundle, with digital downloads of each of the games soundtracks being thrown in for no extra charge. This really is a fantastic deal, as every one of these games is a modern classic—works of art in their own right—and together in a single pay-what-you-want bundle (complete with soundtracks), they offer unbeatable value. In short; buy this bundle. Buy it early and buy it often. With an eclectic mix of absolute top quality titles you are guaranteed to find something to enjoy.
