Icrontic at CES

Greetings from Las Vegas! Once again, it’s time for the Consumer Electronics Show and, once again, Icrontic will be in attendance. This year it’ll be Binh Nguyen and I providing on-site coverage.

While the show doesn’t officially start until Tuesday, pre-show events will begin tonight starting with CES Unveiled. This is a press-only preview event featuring a number of exhibitors covering a wide range of products. 3M, Belkin, Chevrolet, ION Audio, Lenovo, Mad Catz, and Sennheiser are among the 67 companies giving an early look at their new offerings.

We’ll be meeting with OCZ, ROCCAT, Lenovo, SteelSeries, Samsung, and a whole bunch of other companies, as well as wandering the show floor looking for new and interesting products that could very well find their way into our homes. Each year we’ve found something surprising, and I’d expect nothing less this year.

One thing I’m particularly looking forward to is the new Ultra HD standard. It’s quadruple the resolution of the current HDTV standard (3840×2160) and is supposed to look absolutely amazing on a giant screen.

Stay tuned for laughs, shens, tech, food, and more Vegas than you can shake a stick at. Follow myself, Binh, and the official Icrontic Twitter accounts for as-it-happens thoughts and experiences from the showfloor.

Vegas, baby!

Garg I wanna hear your impressions of new convertible laptops, like the Thinkpad Helix.
  2. BuddyJ
BuddyJ Co-worker got the Lenovo Yoga. It's pretty rad. So there's that.

Please info on the so-called "pro monitors."
  3. mertesn
mertesn We're meeting with Lenovo on Thursday. Will make sure to get some hands-on time with the tablets.

@BuddyJ, got anything specific you want Binh and I to look at? Or just professional level displays in general?
  4. Thrax
Thrax Find me affordable 16:10 panels. If someone starts to say "2560x14..." I want you to slap them until they cry and apologize.

  6. QuadWhore
QuadWhore NERDS. I really hope the standard for high quality resolutions is bumped up, because 1920x1080 is soooo early 2000's. When TV's start catching up to monitors, you know there is a problem.

Garg Apparently they've got Oculus Rift there. Like to hear your impressions on the future.

Linc I would like a report on this piece of technological insanity:

"Why is mom stealing that kid's TV?? Oh, silly me, that's their new tablet and she's getting a phone call! Of course."

It's the new Samsung Universe TablePhonTV. You're looking at the smallest entry, a 32-inch full HD model sporting 4G LTE. It weighs less than 23 pounds and is extremely portable thanks to the comfy preinstalled backpack straps. Battery life will never be an issue either. Battery life is said to be around one hour of talk time, 30 minutes of web surfing, and two hours in standby mode. There are also 42- and 60-inch models available.

  11. Thrax
Thrax It'll fail, just like every other unique peripheral that requires an API, SDK and dev support. I challenge you to find one still in existence.
