Intel ups the ante in SSD arms race

They’ve gone to plaid!

Last Thursday we wrote about the unpriced Samsung SSD which is set to rocket along at 220/200MiBs read/write, respectively. Today comes word that Intel is stepping up their game with the X25-E Extreme SSD that clocks in at an impressive 250/170MiBs.

In addition to commanding impressive performance, Intel’s new write amplification technology reduces the number of necessary writes to prolong the life of the drive. This allows the new X25-E Extreme to boast MTBF and write cycle ratings worthy of the enterprise.

The new drive uses SLC NAND cells, will weigh in at 32GB, and exorcise a shade less than $800 from your wallet.
