Is this the ATI Radeon HD 5670?

Is this the ATI Radeon HD 5670?

A poster at hardforum.com revealed today what he alleges to be the as yet unreleased Radeon HD 5670.

Long known only by its codename, Redwood, the budget part is another member of AMD’s 40nm/DirectX 11 Evergreen family. Rumored specifications for the card include:

  • 775MHz core
  • 1000MHz VRAM
  • 1GB GDDR5 memory
  • 128-bit memory bus
  • 64GBps bandwidth
  • 20 texture units
  • 400 shaders
  • 16 ROPs

We put the specs in a table with the 5770, 5850 and 5870 for comparison:

Radeon HD 5670 Radeon HD 5770 Radeon HD 5850 Radeon HD 5870
Core clock 775MHz 850MHz 725MHz 850MHz
Mem. clock 1000MHz 1200MHz 1000MHz 1200MHz
Memory 1GB 1GB 1GB 1GB
Bus width 128-bit 128-bit 256-bit 256-bit
Mem. Bandwidth 64GBps 96GBps 128GBps 154GBps
Texture Units 20 40 72 80
Shaders 400 800 1440 1600
ROPs 16 16 32 32

In all, the alleged specs are good enough to put the card about 20-23% ahead of the Radeon HD 4670 which proceeded it. Expect to see the card in 1Q10 for less than $100.

Cliff_Forster Its short, no external power connector required, should make a fantastic card for HTPC
  2. shwaip
shwaip I'd say far overkill for a htpc.

You might not need it because on board solutions are fine for HD video, at least the ones AMD and NVIDIA produce, but if you wanted to toss in a little gaming that card will get you there on most titles, maybe with some compromise, and still run cool enough efficient enough. I imagine it wont be long before one of the OEM partners fits a passive cooler on it, then it will be even better.

Butters Chart data for Radeon 5870 shaders looks to be missing a few 0's.

I'd throw it on as a gaming HTPC. Would also be good upgrade for those dell/hp PC's with limited power/space.

    Thrax Not any more. ;)
  6. Joe Looks great but I hope they'll use those more compact coolers like sapphire has.
  7. rash nice low budget card, but still no 3d ? :(
