9-9-99 was a huge date for gaming nerds. That was the day that SEGA’s next-gen console was released. Regarded by many as the best of the generation (at least, hardware-wise), it nevertheless flopped due to a variety of factors.
Which is too bad, because the Dreamcast had an amazing game library. Today, collectors and fans are still able to buy new Dreamcast consoles and hey, there are even companies making new Dreamcast games. Still, for the average gamer, the Dreamcast library was lost to the ages.
But no longer. SEGA announced just now that they will be releasing Dreamcast classics for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network starting with Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi. Updated features will include trophy and achievement support as well as online leaderboards.
Release is set at Fall 2010, but something tells me it just might be on September 9th…
