My professor has the Kindle 2. Its a pretty neat device, that I feel has a very powerful future. One thing I've heard fairly often is that people don't like to "read on the monitor" they want their printed material because after a while the screen hurts there eyes etc... It just isn't the same. When you look at the kindle, it seems just like a real printed material. The screen is "glowing" in the sense of a normal monitor. It also appears to have a very high resolution.
This is the future for the "electronic book". Currently the kindle 2 has some issues such as only 4 shades of black / white, it doesn't fully erase the previous screen, and switching to a new page causes it to flash black for a second.
I'd predict in about 5-10 years, if they expand on the product I believe it will take hold as replacing a lot of written material.
