Left 4 Dead 2 gains new Mutation feature: Realism Versus

Left 4 Dead 2 producer Valve has just announced the impending addition of a new game type. After polling players and some internal deliberation, the company has decided to add the Realism Versus game mode.

Realism Versus was originally a gameplay “Mutation”. Since the release of the DLC “The Passing”, Valve has been mixing things up with a slight change, or “Mutation”, to the standard gameplay settings. Every week, a new Mutation would appear, but the changes would only be temporary.

However, the fan reaction to Realism Versus, which combines the rules of Versus and Realism Modes to create a very hard-core multiplayer experience, was so strong that Valve  created a poll to see if fans would like to see the mutation become a permanent addition to the L4D2 experience. The answer? An overwhelming yes.

The Mutation system is not yet over. This week’s Mutation is dubbed “Follow the Liter.” This particular Mutation affects the rules of Scavenge, making it so that only one group of cans spawn at a time. While survivors now know exactly where to go, the Infected players do as well and can lie in waiting.

These new features and weekly Mutations are available to all owners of Left 4 Dead 2’s “The Passing” DLC on both PC and Xbox 360.

Bandrik Realism Versus sounds pretty hardcore. I'm not sure my personal skills are up to snuff, but it's awesome that Valve yet again listened to their community and added a new feature to the game that a lot of people liked.
