Locked and Loaded for the Battlefield 3 beta

Battlefield 3We are just over a month away from the most anticipated first-person shooter of 2011. No, I am not talking about Call of Duty. I am talking about Battlefield 3. On September 29, Battlefield 3 will have an open beta for the PC, PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. If you plan on playing the beta on the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, then all you need to do is look for it in the marketplace. For the PC players you will need get the beta from Origin. The lucky ones who pre-ordered Medal of Honor will be able to play the beta early, with access starting on September 27.

Beta testers will have access to all of the Battlefield 3’s web-based Battlelog, a social network-style stat tracker connected to the game. Also, EA wants us to sign up to the EA Gun Club, which will have the latest shooter news as well as in-game access to the M1911 pistol and exclusive badges.

At the Battlefield 3 website, there will only be one map, Operation Metro, and one mode, Rush. Are you ready? Are you excited? I am—as I will play the beta on my PlayStation 3 till I get a new video card for my PC.

Speaking of which, check out our ultimate guide on building a perfect PC for Battlefield 3, with parts lists and price points. See you on the Battlefield!

Tim Should I get the beta on my PC or my 360? Which will be the most popular when the game comes out? I've never played Battlefield and am not really excited about it, but I'll try it for the free open beta.

Get the beta for both if you can. The PC is the lead platform, and it'll certainly look better thanks to the extra eye candy you can enable with a sufficient GPU. Plus if you're into multiplayer, the PC version will support 64-player servers.

Sledgehammer70 Battlefield will be huge for PC and Xbox.
