Paradox’s latest game is a bit off the beaten path. Perhaps you could consider it a “comedy fantasy action RPG”. It’s a four-player co-op fantasy beat-em-up in the vein of Gauntlet or Torchlight. Or a high-fantasy Alien Swarm.
Either way, it sounds like a blast. One of the unique aspects of Magicka is the spellcasting system whereby players have the ability to create new spells by combining elements. The documentation claims over a million custom spells are possible, which should open the doors for some interesting stories in multiplayer mode (“Remember the time I cast a liquid lightning spell that actually healed the monsters…?”)
Magicka is due for release in Q1 2011 for PC.
