Mass Effect “Equalizer Pack” DLC available now

Mass Effect “Equalizer Pack” DLC available now

Today, Bioware launched the latest DLC pack for their outer space gun-packing dance of bravura, Mass Effect 2. The Equalizer Pack is DLC that adds new items and armor to help Shepard stop the Collectors from harvesting all of the human race. Players who wish to play dress-up with Shepard in these new duds can purchase the DLC pack on Xbox Live or via Bioware’s Social Network for the PC version.

The Equalizer Pack introduces the Capacitor Helmet, Archon Visor, and Inferno Armor to Shepard’s armor locker. The Capacitor Helmet expedites shield recharge, thanks to its stored power designed to assist kinetic barriers. It also looks super sweet and will catch the blue eyes of every passing Asari babe. The Archon Visor beefs up Shepard’s omni-tools and biotics, shortening the recharge time of related powers as well as helping the wearer see why kids love Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Finally, the Inferno Armor features full power augmentation, which will speed up Shepard’s movements and strengthen tech and biotic attacks. The armor also gives Shepard an extra bargaining chip in negotiations outside of combat thanks to the built-in stress analysis software. Shepard will dish out the finest smack talk known to the galaxy while wearing the Inferno Armor.

Think $2 is too much for DLC?

What all of this technical talk really means is that when Shepard wears Equalizer, he will become a one man army capable of taking on even the largest Krogran at an arm wrestling match while drinking one of Illium’s famous Mystery Drinks and negotiating the surrender terms of a corrupt Volus at the same time. Equalizer—when the armor goes on, the gloves come off.

The Equalizer Pack DLC can be purchased on Xbox Live for 160 MS points, or for PC via Bioware’s Social Network for 160 Bioware points. For those not hip to either currency jive, the DLC is worth about $2 US dollars.

coldalarm Am I allowed to have a small whinge about this?

I think it's just ridiculous, truth be told. This pack has 2 new pieces, as the third (Inferno Armor) was a pre-order bonus. Now, ME2's only been out a few months so it's a bit of a kick in the teeth to those who bought the codes on eBay or otherwise. Those of us who have it end up with a duplicate, and there's no way for us to "just" get the visors.

This is just furthering my annoyance with how DLC and items are handled by EA/BioWare.

UPSLynx I agree. Even at $2, I'm not a fan of such DLC. It's why I wrote the news the way I did. Some will like the DLC, but to me, the whole thing is a bit frivolous.

coldalarm If they doubled the price of the pack, replaced the Inferno armor with something *new* or other armor pieces and maybe something else (maybe another ornament for your cabin?) then perhaps it'd be worth it. Nothing overpowered, of course, but just some new chest pieces, legs, maybe gloves and shoulders?
But I can't justify that price for 2 visors I likely won't use and an armor set I already have.
  4. Justin or maybe they should drop the price altogether and offer it for free on the cerberus network like they said they were going to, hmmmmm? what a ripoff.
  5. coldalarm
coldalarm I don't think they've ever said that.
At least, not to my knowledge.
  6. Koreish
Koreish No, there was supposed to be continual free releases on Cerberus Network for those who preorder ME2. I was expecting stupid things like this for free and actual content would have to be paid for. Apparently stupid things like this you have to pay for too.
  7. coldalarm
coldalarm And there still are (note: Cerberus Network was moved from a Collector's Edition bonus to being in all copies of the game as part of EA's "Project Ten Dollar" initiative). The Hammerhead pack came out not overly long ago, and they've already dropped a few bits and pieces on it.

They never claimed all DLC will be free, and they haven't announced an end to free DLC. If you, like me, think it's a waste of time, just don't buy it.
