McGraw-Hill confirms existence of the Apple Tablet

McGraw-Hill’s CEO Terry McGraw just confirmed on CNBC that the Apple Tablet does indeed exist, and that Apple will be announcing it tomorrow. McGraw-Hill is one of the nation’s largest manufacturers of textbooks, and McGraw claims that his company has been working with Apple on the tablet for some time.

The tablet will be based on the iPhone OS, and McGraw thinks that it will be “really terrific” for the higher education and professional markets.

While rumors have abounded about the Applet tablet, and there have been a billion supposed confirmations of its existence, considering that this is coming from the CEO of McGraw-Hill it’s most likely legitimate. Congratulations Apple fans, your precious tablet really does exist.

Video of the annoucement from McGraw is below.

Cliff_Forster And its going to be a glorified E-Reader, just like I predicted. Being right all the time is such a heavy burden.

chrisWhite We'll see, I'm not calling it either way yet before we see something from Apple themselves (ahem, hopefully in what, seventeen or eighteen hours? I forget). The concept of an Apple tablet excites me a bit but I'm certainly not going fanboy over any of the concepts just yet.

Contrary to popular belief I'm not an Apple fanboy, I happily criticize them at least as often as I express my love for some of their products and decisions. In the end they're mostly a bunch of dicks who often make nice stuff. IMHO.

AlexDeGruven Nice work on keeping embargo/NDA, dummy. (To be clear, McGraw-Hill, not you, GQ)

Something tells me they won't be getting anything under NDA for quite some time now.

kryyst Calling it a glorified e-reader though is like calling a computer a glorified calculator. If the latest assumptions pan out a 10" device capable of running all iphone/touch apps, full color e-reader and a persistent 3g connection. That is so much more, especially if that 3g coverage is free like on regular e-readers. Even if the 3g isn't free with built in wifi as well that's an impressive device capable of disrupting both the netbook and e-reader markets.

I'm looking forward to it, then to see what the competition comes out with.

AlexDeGruven If it was full-time connected for not just e-book downloads (but also included AppStore and iTunes), then I would actually consider purchasing an apple product.

chrisWhite Man, I still really doubt the 3G on this thing. AT&T can't keep up with iPhone traffic as it is to the point of not even selling iPhones in New York, I doubt they want to add a device made for higher resolution media and generally heavier bandwidth usage. If it's not AT&T that may be a another matter but I'm not sure anyone else is going to want to jump on that bandwagon at the moment. We'll see soon though.
