Mechwarrior: Living Legends Beta 1 released

Just last week we wrote of the recent media blitz on the website for the highly anticipated Crysis full-conversion mod, Mechwarrior: Living Legends. In the comments for that story, Living Legends developer Sean “Criminal” Tracy posted that we should expect some great news over the next few days. Today, that news was delivered: Mechwarrior: Living Legends Beta 1 is now available for download.

The download weighs in at an impressive 1.4 gigabytes and, at the time of writing, can be downloaded from these three mirrors, or via the official torrent, which could use some seeder lovin’. If you are not yet convinced of the awesomeness of this mod, allow this beta release trailer to whet your appetite:

Seriously, stop what you’re doing and download this Crysis mod. Strap in, Mechwarriors, and let loose the PPCs of war! It’s time to reduce the Clanner scum to a footnote in the history books of the 32nd century. I can feel the warmth of their critical reactors now…

26 Dec 2009 ~ 11:18pm _k It has 422 seeds currently with 140 availability, full set of files. I think it is good on the .tor sized but I will leave mine seeding with the upload unlimited for 4 days just so Bobby doesn't cry.

27 Dec 2009 ~ 6:54pm UPSLynx I tried it earlier today. The mod is fantastic, from what little amount I messed around with. the mechs look great, the environments are big, and it feels like a mech game. It is a little buggy still, but thats to be expected from a first beta.

Problem is, there aren't any servers

Trying to figure it out, I'm dying to play.

Last night there was a good amount of servers, not a ton of players, but for a 24 hour old mod, things are looking good.

The mod devs are playing with pubs on their official server, asking questions and taking notes, talking about the bugs and what they're working on.

I have very high hopes for all of this.
28 Dec 2009 ~ 1:44pm RWB I've got Crysis DLing now from Steam. Just stopped seeding the torrent though as it was killing my Crysis DL I'll start it back up afterwards already at 5GB uploaded after one night

28 Dec 2009 ~ 3:25pm Bandrik I spent too much on Steam games already this holiday season. I just can't justify getting Crysis at this point. Besides, I don't think my aged PC can really give the game any justice... =/
28 Dec 2009 ~ 3:31pm Cliff_Forster I want to re install Crysis and this mod, but it will have to wait a bit. I'm curious of how well it will run. Typically a mech game is not too twitch focused, so I would imagine a steady 30 FPS may be fine for this one.

28 Dec 2009 ~ 5:52pm RWB Yeah Chris, I thought the same about this holiday sale from Steam as I was holding out to see if the Crysis and Warhead Pack would go on sale. But $40 isn't too bad and I just got out of playing Crysis for the first time evar, and was shocked to see my system play it almost maxed out at 1680x1050.

This is why I've been waiting until the last day of the sales to buy anything that hasn't been featured yet.

I couldn't help myself, I tried the same thing but really wanted to try this mod out asap. But I've only played twice, and beat both Crysis games last night instead.;D

If you haven't already, check the official torrent Lynx posted in the main article. Almost 700 seeds. May start out slow, but it will probably be your best bet for right now. Happy hunting.
