Media Temple web host down

Media Temple web host down

Media Temple, a major web host, is currently down. The outage, as best we can tell, affects every site they are hosting including Techcrunch.com and the Media Temple status blog.   Their support phone lines are jammed. Twitter has itself in a tizzy reporting the downtime, but no word from the Media Temple account.

Update 11:51 am EST: The Media Temple home page and Techcrunch are back after approximately 15 minutes of downtime. Twitter folk are reporting that sites are coming back online gradually, but many sites appear to be still offline.

Update 11:57 am EST: Their system status blog is getting hammered, but appears to be back up. Nothing relevant on it (last post Feb 10).

Update 11:59 am EST: It appears many hosted sites are back online. Still no word from (mt).

Update 12:15pm EST: They’ve updated their status blog, citing “Network Disruptions” as the cause of both the downtime and tardiness of their update (over a half hour from first downtime to update, by our count).

Linc So, apparently a router in Europe sent out bad info, which triggered a bug in a certain type of unpatched Cisco router, which brought a percentage of the Internet to its knees.
