US memory manufacturer Micron plans to release a new line of DDR2 modules designed for low voltage/high performance scenarios.
The new technology is dubbed LPDDR2 (low-power DDR2) and is the result of a joint development process between Micron and Nanya. The new technology reduces DDR2’s draw from 1.8v to 1.2v and has initial availability in 512 megabit and 1000 megabit varieties. It is expected that 4 gigabit modules are set to appear in the future, and the entire line is destined to reach DDR2-1066 speeds.
