Rumors have been circulating about a possible HP/Microsoft tablet, and many industry insiders had expected that CEO Steve Ballmer would be announcing that at this year’s CES, but it was not to be. Ballmer did discuss several existing tablet computers that run Windows 7, but said nothing about working with HP to produce their own tablet.

No tablet for you.
Ballmer did announce that Project Natal would be coming out this year, during or right before the holidays. Project Natal is a controller-free way to interact with the console. It responds to full body movement and voice commands from users, and is reported to be Microsoft’s attempt to break into the casual gaming scene that the Nintendo Wii enjoys. No other information was released on it, such as price, but rumors indicate that those details will come out at this year’s E3.
Ballmer spent the remainder of his time ruminating on recent technology that has come out, what possible technology may arise in the future, and some of Microsoft’s charitable works. He did, however, release the names of several new games, such as another game in the Halo series, that will be released sometime in the spring or summer.
