Achievement.aspxDETROIT, MICHIGAN (ICG)—Today in the streets of Detroit and surrounding suburbs, mass riots took place as Xbox 360 fanboys left their homes, their jobs, and their vehicles to wildly celebrate the “crash-heard-round-the-wibbles,” as Playstation 3 owners silently brooded and plotted their revenge. The reason for celebration? Modern Warfare 2 dedicated servers for the Playstation 3 are currently down, with no solid ETA for recovery.

Joystiq confirmed the outage on their own internal PS3, and found a Tweet from Activision support that claims, “We don’t have a hard ETA on the servers coming back up, but the outage is totally unrelated to the patch.”

Xbox 360 fanboys were seen to descend in hordes upon Playstation forums, gaming news sites, social sites, and even town squares, cheering wildly, chanting things like “PWNED!” and “LOL PS3 SUXX”. No violence has been reported yet, but we’ll keep an eye on this developing story.

    360's have had much worse problems, last I checked I don't have to worry about my system getting the Ring of Death of overheating and frying like so many do. Enjoy your piece of crap 360, this problem has no bearing on the system, just a server issue.

    The sad thing about the one fanboy up above calling out Warhawk etc... Is there even 30 people playing the game still at any given time? I say this as an owner of that fun game that got old real quick :)

    From a Developer standpoint... The PS3 is 25% slower than the Xbox - But makes up for the slowness by having tons of disc storage so the files do not have to be super compressed.

    Also Uncharted 2 is finally a game that shows what today's gen console can really push out. If the studio developed it for the Xbox out the door the results would have been the same.

    1. Getting my console banned (because i modded or they made a mistake and banned me)
    2. Paying $50 a year to play online, that's an EXTRA $300 added to the cost of my console if i have it for 6 years.
    3. Having a 55% chance of my console breaking due to multiple hardware failures including; RROD, E74 and other E errors, disc scratching, disc tray not popping out, AV video output malfunctioning, and 3rd party accessories not working or even breaking my system, and then waiting weeks or even months to get it fixed and returned.
    4. Only exclusives i get to play are First person shooters or third person shooters.
    5. Five halo games.
    6. Forecast: Gears of War 3, Left for Dead 3, Fable 3, Halo 6, and Natal Presents Party Games for Xbox 360 are your biggest exclusives next year.
    7. PAY the ultimate premium price for EVERY extra equipment or service that M$ has to offer that comes standard on other systems.

    and many more annoying things but these are the biggest and most annoying, just as annoying as all the 12 year old little boys on xbox live that f**ked my momma.

    When the people I work with who build games on the platform tell me otherwise, I tend to believe them. It wasn't until I asked why and got shown the reason why that I fully understood. By no means is my comment to discredit the system at all. The PS3 is an amazing piece of hardware, but has its technical flaws, just as any other hardware has...

Now i play all day an night for 2 days come on today and UPDATE i think ok cool so i download it then NO MORE ONLINE PLAY .... i think it was the update. P.S PLAYSTATION 3 is better then the rest and yes i do have a ps3, x-box 360, wii and pc

I am typing this post from my new G5 that is using the intertubes by being connected to my iPhone while my iHome blast music from my iPod that stores all my favs from the iStore and I am watching TV on my Apply TV with the TV box thingy...I don't know I payed one of those Apply guys like a few hundred dollars to come set this all up for me. Snow Tiger is the best OS ever and its only on version 8.3!

    I feel sorry for all you M$ freaks that are addicted to it like crack when Apply is much more like a warm white wine that has been aged.

    Can people stop blaming activation for the servers being down and also IW because the fact of the matter is the server is ran by a third party with is suppose to maintain it and make sure that it doesn't crash so when moaning get the facts right a least and blame demonward for not being able to run a server the stupid Irish D##ks and yea i have had both xbox and playstation but found the play station to be much better than the xbox on many levels but the main thing is exclusives playstation has uncharted, killzone, GT5 (when it comes out), resistance etc and what the has xbox got halo (wow what a load of rubbish), gears and what a let down that is and also forza which is nothing compared to GT5

Its pretty clear that people are unhappy with the Xbox if they are modifying them to resemble the PS3 and to download pirated games. Microsoft are a corporation who believe in profits not doing whats best for customers hence why they have handed out lifetime bans to numerous users from XBOX live today.

Purchased a new system, pre-ordererd the game and now I can't friginn play. Servers are down the day after release. I'm $500(new system, pre-order, etc.) in on this game on the ps3, and can't play. I'm not happy!!!!

    11 Nov 2009 ~ 8:45pm wyznet That was the problem. They estimated 400,000 but not millions ALL trying to get on at once. Barrel of monkeys can only fit so many monkeys. What they're doing is seeing how many players are actually going to be on so they can keep those servers. They don't want to open all servers again and have them all crash all over. So they're going to let a server fill up and move to the next.

    1. The PS3 does have a red ring of death of its own. It is a yellow light that comes on when you fry your system or even better... your hard drive. That is right, the all mighty PS3 does have flaws. Though what sucks is that Sony charges you to fix your problem, I think even if you are under warranty. Microsoft, though they have red rings of death commonly, will replace your system even if it is past warranty. So even though yes the PS3 get those kinds of issues once in a blue moon, PS3s are not Gods of the consoles.

    2. PS3's are not backwards compatible anymore. Only the original releases had fully backwards compatibility. The Metal Gear Edition was the last one to have backwards compatibility that was limited. All the new systems, including I believe the PS3 slim that just came out, don't have that luxury. So for people who could not afford to get an older system are screwed and have to get a PS2. Hence why Sony still sells them for $120 or so.

    3. The only reason that the PS3 even got the trophy system was because Xbox was getting more customers because of its achievement system. Though even now, not all PS3 games that came out will have that system while Xbox had it since day one. And don't get me started on all the delayed promises with the PS3 home. Quite frankly, if that is your selling point for getting a PS3 you are sad. I don't even care about the avatar system on either system because I can just upload any picture I find from the internet and use it. All the stuff that the PS3 has is just pretty icing on a cake.

    4. Now, before all the PS3 fan boys start to hate on me for the obvious flaws that I pointed out with their beloved system, Xbox is not a God either. It does have lower graphic output than PS3. Yes, you have to pay for online. But, they get some exclusive content that you can only get through the Xbox, as well as some free demos of games that will come out. As do PS3 users. You both have to pay for any extra content you want for games, you both have to wait for updates to install on your systems, you both have to deal with cheating noobs. Yes, the customizing options for the 360 suck. And the only reason that customer support with Microsoft is better than Sony's is because Microsoft's needs to be in order to keep profits.

    Why can't we both just game on a console that we prefer? In the end you both get the same game, just different little icing on the cake based on system that you have. I will admit that when I had both a PS3 and a 360, I bought games based on the content that I wanted. If I wanted the achievements and large gaming community, I would go with Xbox. Aka, mainly for fighting games. If I wanted Exclusive games or just games I thought would be played better with better graphics and I really couldn't give a shit about achievements, I would go with the PS3. As well as the fact that the PS3 has blue ray.

    Both systems have their perks and both systems have their really obvious flaws. Can't we all just kill our enemies in a game and outside the game get along?
