Mojang, the developers of the famous Minecraft, today announced that they have signed a deal with Sony to bring their popular game to the Sony Ericsson Experia Play before any other mobile platform. If you needed another reason to want the Xperia, here it is.
The game will not be a direct port, but will feature customized controls adapted to work with the Xperia’s slide out gaming controls, among other changes.
“When playing on smartphones you will have a different screen size compared to PC, different hardware, different attention spans and thus the game needs to be customized to fit the mobile specifications,” says the company’s statement. Additionally, they said that the mobile editions will follow the same development cycle as the PC version, which I suppose means they’ll be perpetually updating a seemingly never-finished product.
The announcement came along-side an invitation from Mojang to E3 attendees to attend a “Before Darkness Falls” party with Sony. They will likely use the opportunity to make some announcements about the future of Minecraft including the price and release date for the mobile version.
